  1994年，经中华人民共和国公安部、民政部批准成立中国道路交通安全协会，并由中华人民共和国公安部主管。协会主要从事宣传和普及交通安全知识，繁荣和发展交通安全科学技术事业，开展交通管理学术交流和研讨等方面的社会活动。协会是国际道路交通安全协会（简称PRI）的会员单位。
